Sylvia Abuissa
Hi, my name is Sylvia. I am an LAC in New Jersey, recently graduated from William Paterson University. My previous experience includes working with adults and some background on substance use. Growing up as a first generation American I had to learn to adapt to a new culture while still holding on to my roots. Navigating the cultural differences has provided me with a deeper understanding of identity, communication, and resilience. Not only has this strengthened my understanding of cultural impact, but also sparked my passion for mental health, especially for individuals like myself who are caught between worlds. My goal as a counselor is to provide a safe and welcoming environment for clients to feel heard and empowered. Counseling has always felt like my calling, and I’m looking forward to working with clients to achieve more fulfilling lives. I feel the therapeutic alliance should resemble teamwork as we work together to build lasting changes.
