Alfreda Kulah-Samuel

Alfreda is a Licensed Associate Counselor with a deep commitment to guiding others toward healing and meaningful, lasting change. She brings both professional expertise and personal insight to her clinical work — creating space for clients to feel seen, understood, and supported as they navigate life's most complex challenges.

During her graduate training at Antioch University, Alfreda built clinical experience working with adult populations across a range of presenting concerns, with a particular focus on trauma, crisis intervention, and co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. These formative experiences continue to shape her ability to develop individualized treatment plans and deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions tailored to each client's unique needs and strengths.

Alfreda is well-versed in working with clients navigating complex, layered challenges, and understands that healing rarely follows a straight line. She approaches each therapeutic relationship through a trauma-informed, person-centered lens — prioritizing safety, dignity, and authentic connection as the foundation of a strong therapeutic alliance.

Her lived experience and professional background together inform a nuanced understanding of trauma, resilience, and the transformative inner work required to interrupt and heal generational patterns. Alfreda believes deeply in the capacity for growth and holds a strengths-based perspective that honors each client's inherent wisdom and potential.

As an immigrant, Alfreda brings a firsthand appreciation for the experience of holding one's cultural identity while adapting to a new environment — the grief, the pride, the negotiation, and the resilience that journey demands. This awareness enriches her clinical lens and her ability to connect meaningfully with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and life experiences. Drawing on her background and years of helping others articulate their stories, Alfreda utilizes a culturally responsive, inclusive, and eclectic therapeutic approach — incorporating modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), and Motivational Interviewing — to help clients understand how their experiences have shaped them, challenge the irrational beliefs that keep them stuck, and cultivate the self-acceptance and flexible thinking needed to engage more fully and authentically with themselves and others.
